Parent Education And Antenatal Services In Nottingham

Being pregnant for the first time can be a daunting experience, with so much information to navigate and so many choices to make.

Where will you give birth? How will you give birth? Is there any way to prepare for labour?

Thankfully, Nottingham has a heap of parent education classes and antenatal services available for new parents, or for second-time (or third or fourth) time parents who feel they would like to do things differently this time around.

These classes and services can be a vital source of information for parents-to-be, so here’s where to find them.

Nottingham City Hospital runs a range of classes and workshops at their parent education room – you can attend these sessions if you are booked to have your baby at City Hospital, Queen’s Medical Centre or at home. The workshops are run by midwives or physiotherapists and are open to women and their partners or birth supporters. Classes should be started around 32 weeks pregnant.

• They are run during the day, evenings and on weekends
• They offer physiotherapist-run workshops titled 'Look after yourself in pregnancy and after birth'

The shorter of the courses on offer and run over 12 hours, NCT Essentials covers:

Courses are held at convenient locations during evening and weekdays.

NCT Signature Course
The NCT Signature Course is longer than the essential course. It covers the following topics:

• What happens in labour
• Pain relief
• Medical procedures, including caesareans
• Home births and water births options
• Looking after a new-born and feeding
• Early parenting and lifestyle changes

NCT Antenatal Refresher Course
The NCT Antenatal Refresher courses are a great way of concentrating on this baby and this pregnancy - often overlooked when there are toddlers and other children to look after. They are also a means of meeting other parents. They are appropriate for all parents, regardless of the age gap between your children.

A 6-week course suitable for pregnant mums who are 14 weeks pregnant and beyond. The course will help strengthen your body, soothe away aches and pains such as backache and heart burn, and relax the body at every stage of your pregnancy.
