On Thursday 26 February 2026, Peggy's Skylight in Nottingham hosts Funk In Deep Freeze from 8pm to 10pm, with doors opening at 7pm and the night wrapping up around 10pm. Tickets run from nine to twelve pounds fifty. It's a cosy dive into Blue Note grooves and that nostalgic 70s jazz funk vibe, spinning tracks from Jimmy Smith, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Grant Green and similar groovy souls. Think bass-heavy jams, soulful swings, and those explosive bits where the sax goes on a creative ramble, all inspired by the funky fusion of late 60s jazz meeting James Brown and Sly.

This crew has jammed together in various setups before and they're a regular hit at Peggy's, clearly loving the spontaneous chaos they cook up. The lineup features Thom Whitworth on trumpet and guitar, Paul Deats tinkering with Fender Rhodes electric piano and Moog synth, Simon Paterson holding down bass, and Stevie Smith on drums. Perfect for thawing out a chilly February evening without actually turning up the thermostat.
