On Friday 24 April 2026 at 7pm, the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham hosts the local edition of BBC Radio 3s Friday Night is Music Night. The BBC Concert Orchestra, led by conductor Karen N Bhroin, teams up with Nottingham pianist Clare Hammond to run through classical tunes that scored big in the movies. Think Mozarts Marriage of Figaro Overture kicking things off, alongside bits from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Kings Speech, then Beethovens Symphony No 7 slow movement also from The Kings Speech. Tickets range from 15 to 42.50 pounds.

The programme keeps the film nods coming with Bizens Carmen Habanera from Up, Rachmaninoffs Piano Concerto No 2 slow bit via A Brief Encounter, Anne Dudleys main title from Elle, Mozarts Clarinet Concerto slow movement for Out of Africa, Rachel Portmans theme from Chocolat, Mozarts Piano Concerto 22 finale from Amadeus, Clara Schumanns Polonaise No 4 out of Anger Management, and Strausss Blue Danube roped in for Squid Game and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Perfect if you ever wondered how those cinematic earworms sound without the popcorn crunch.
