On 26 August 2025, Southwell Racecourse, an easy drive from Nottingham, is putting on its August Bank Holiday Family Fun Day. You can watch live horse racing, take in some light entertainment and spend a day outdoors with the family. Under 18s go free, so it is useful for anyone trying to entertain a small army on a budget, and picnics are welcome if you prefer sandwiches to overpriced burgers.

There will be plenty to keep children busy, including funfair rides, face painting, a treasure hunt with prizes, a petting zoo, magic shows and interactive games from a children's entertainer, and the opportunity to meet a retired racehorse up close. The funfair, face painting and petting zoo carry a small extra charge. If you want to save a bit, a Family Bundle can be bought in advance for £23 and covers two adults and up to four children.
