Fancy a bit of a staircase workout? On 18 June 2026, Bromley House Library in Nottingham is opening its doors for guided tours, which is your chance to poke around every nook of a lovely Georgian townhouse that has been hoarding books since 1816. You will get the full monty across three floors, complete with tales of secret shelves and eccentric former members, plus a peek at the rare books and the walled garden. Just bear in mind there is no lift and a lot of steps, so bring your quads and a sense of humour. The whole thing runs about an hour and a half, leaving time for photos, a browse of the gift shop, and a chat with the volunteers who keep the place ticking.

Tickets are a tenner for adults, eight for concessions (over 60s or those on income related benefits, and under 18s), and six for kids. You need to book ahead, and if you have any access concerns it is worth ringing them on 01159 476134 or dropping an email to [email protected], because as they politely put it, there is no level access and the stairs are not joking around. The tour itself kicks off on the 18th of June 2026, but check the date, because it might be a one off or one of several selected dates. Either way, it is a nice way to spend an afternoon if you do not mind a bit of a climb.
