Family Skating At The National Ice Centre

by BecSorby (follow)
While ice skating is a sport enjoyed by kids and parents alike throughout the UK, Nottingham parents are lucky to have access to the best facilities in the country – the National Ice Centre.

Whether you’re looking to have a bit of fun with the kids or they have decided they want to be the next Torvill or Dean (who, by the way, trained at the centre) the National Ice Arena is a fantastic destination for all ages. With parent and toddler skating sessions, family party sessions and family ‘paint and skate’, the National Ice Arena is a truly family friendly affair. Here’s what they offer for kids and parents.

Parent and Toddler skating session

Even the youngest members of the family can join in the fun with the centre’s Parent and Toddler skating sessions. The sessions are designed for children aged 18 months to 5 years, with size 5 being the smallest skate size available for toddlers. With experienced instructors running the sessions, children will learn new skills through play in a safe environment, from standing on the ice to increasing confidence and becoming confident skaters.

Children will have the opportunity to use on-ice equipment characters, including the banana skating aids, which can fit two children at once. Parent and Toddler sessions are held every Tuesday and Friday from 1:15pm to 1:45pm and on Sundays from 10am to 10:45am. The cost is £6.50 for one parent and one toddler, including skate hire and an extra £3.50 for another toddler. Places are limited, so please call the box office on 0843 373 3000 to book.

Family Party Sessions

Every Saturday afternoon, the National Ice Centre runs a family party session with music and low lights just perfect for family fun. Younger children can use the ice equipment during these sessions if needed. Standard entry and hire prices apply, which you can view here.

Monthly Family Paint and Skate session

Skating and painting in one super fun session? Sounds like an awesome idea for the whole family! The Family Paint and Skate session combine skating with painting on the ice and includes use of paint pens in lots of different colours, plus stencils. Wear some old but warm clothing or take advantage of a free poncho to cover your Sunday best. Matting is also available to kneel on. The sessions are run every month and also include face painting and a DJ playing classic children’s songs.

There are experienced coaches available during each session for assistance and structured lessons or individual coaching is also available.
