Monday 22 June 2026, 7.30pm at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham. Tickets are 34 to 44.50 quid, if you fancy it.
Someone at Uncut magazine declared Arooj Aftab to be the coolest rock star on the planet right now, which is a big claim for an artist who barely touches rock at all. She blends jazz, minimalism, South Asian sounds, and avant pop into something that's hers alone. In 2024 she put out her fourth album, Night Reign, which got a Grammy nod for Best Alternative Jazz Album, and the track 'Raat Ki Rani' also got nominated for Best Global Music Performance. She's played Glastonbury and Coachella and popped up on Stephen Colbert and Jools Holland, so she's clearly doing something right. For this show she's bringing the London Contemporary Orchestra conducted by Robert Ames, which should add a bit of extra orchestral oomph. If you're after an evening of music that doesn't fit neatly into a box, this could be your thing. No need to scream about it, but it's on.
