If youre around Nottingham on Tuesday 30 September through to Saturday 4 October 2025, you might catch Inspector Morse House of Ghosts at the Theatre Royal. Tickets range from 22 to 60 pounds, so its an option if youre in the mood for some onstage sleuthing without breaking the bank. Its the first time the classic detective has made it to the stage in a brand new story, drawing from that beloved ITV series which even the Radio Times called Britains top crime show ever, spawning all those spin offs like Lewis and Endeavour.

The plot kicks off with a young actress keeling over mid performance, leaving Chief Inspector Morse and his sidekick DS Lewis to poke around what looks like a dodgy death. Things get properly spooky when it ties back to some shadowy bit of Morses history from 25 years ago, because apparently even detectives cant escape their own plot twists. Tom Chambers, the bloke from Father Brown and that dancing show, steps into Morses shoes for this one, making it a solid pick if you fancy a mystery that unfolds without needing a magnifying glass of your own.
