Friday 29 May 2026, 1pm to 2pm at Djanogly Gallery. A free gallery tour led by Ashley Gallant, Interim Head of Visual Arts Programming at Lakeside Arts. Advance booking is recommended. There was a BSL interpreted tour earlier in the season on 16 May if that helps with planning.
The show gathers artists who treat drawing as a kind of slow time machine. Penny McCarthy spent months with Titian's rarely shown woodcut The Submersion of the Pharaoh's Army in the Red Sea from Sheffield Museums, then set about redrawing and riffing on its themes of submersion, travel, time and the cosmos. She invited George Shaw, James Pyman and Billy Hughes to come along for the ride. Shaw takes a nostalgic look back to his Coventry childhood, Pyman reimagines mid century comics and old novels on a large scale, and Hughes produces photorealistic drawings that rework found images and even uses AI to nudge them into speculative futures. The tours aim to give you a clearer view of how drawing can be used to make sense of the past and imagine what comes next, one careful stroke at a time.
