Thursday 2 April 2026 sees Andrew Woods Hammerhead taking over Peggys Skylight in Nottingham from 8pm to 10pm, with doors opening at 7pm. Tickets are a straightforward 16 quid. This sextet digs into the groovy, melody-packed world of 60s hard bop, pulling out tunes by Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan and their mates from the Blue Note golden age, plus a few modern nods in the same vein. Think soulful fire without the fuss.
Fronted by jazz drummer Andrew Woody Wood, whos no stranger to the local circuit with stints in Peggys House Band, Tony Kofis Inside Straight and others, the lineup brings together Midlands regulars and UK heavyweights: Chris Bowden on tenor sax, Magnus Hawker-French on trombone, Jeff Brown blowing trumpet, Matt Ratcliffe at the piano, Martyn Spencer on double bass, and Woody keeping the beat. An interval keeps things civil.
