Fancy popping over to the National Holocaust Museum on Tuesday 12th August 2025. Between 1pm and 2:30pm, they have John Fieldsend BEM giving an account of his life as a Kindertransportee. John, who arrived in Britain on the Kindertransport after experiencing growing antisemitism in Germany where he was raised, has quite a tale to tell. Born in Czechoslovakia back in 1931, his parents sadly did not make it, but he still holds onto a final letter they sent him. He later went on to become an Anglican minister, so you can expect a reflective and rather human look at his journey through identity, faith and sheer survival.

As for the venue, the National Holocaust Museum has recently spruced up 'The Journey' exhibition, which follows a ten year old German Jewish boy's trip on a Kindertransport rescue train, and is apparently suitable for anyone aged nine and up. There are also other museum exhibitions, some lovely gardens to wander around, and a coffee shop if you fancy a cuppa and a biscuit. Regarding tickets, it will set you back ten quid for an adult, nine for concessions, or seven pounds fifty pence for children aged eight to sixteen. A family ticket is thirty quid. Bear in mind that these are special event tickets, which are an additional five pounds per person or three pounds fifty pence per child on top of the museum's general admission. The good news is, your general admission ticket is valid for a whole year of unlimited return visits.
